I talked about this a little over on the intro post, but I have this really vague and self-indulgent AU idea floating around in my head. All I know about it are the following:

1) Jessica faked her death to get away from her husband and his creditors. Because she's a smart girl.

2) Jessica and Grace become BFFs.

3) Grace at some point becomes aware that Harold is still alive.

4) Grace and Jessica spend lots of time gently mocking Harold and John for their complete inability to human.

5) Jessica and Shaw hook up.

Halp, I guess?

Oh, I'm definitely with Oro. You totally need to write this.
2) Hmm... I assume since the world thinks Reese is dead, then Jessica will, too. If so, then she might end up going to some sort of group therapy counseling to deal with the grief, and that could be where she meets Grace? And-- I'm just brainstorming, feel free to ignore any of this-- through their shared grief they form an incredibly tight bond, paralleling Harold and John's relationship, which would be super cool. I read what you said in your post about "redemption" and "regret", and I think you could use these themes quite strongly in a Reese-Finch and a Jessica-Grace parallel.
Okay, yeah. I second 4). So much.
Will Grace get back together with Harold? And how will John deal with Jessica and Shaw hooking up? (unless the plan is to ship Harold and John?)
I'm going to have to think more on 5)

Yes, I agree with the grief counseling thing, and I probably will go that direction. I strongly doubt that Grace and Harold will be getting back together, though they may manage to get a friendship out of it, mostly because I can't see someone as fundamentally honest as Grace understanding what Harold's doing now. You know? It's like, Jessica has a good reason for going under a false name, but Harold's deception is more broad-reaching and less understandable.

I also reaaaaaally doubt that Jessica and Reese would be going anywhere near anything like back together, for pretty much the same reasons.

I. I want this fic. I will talk it over as much as you'd like until you hash everything out, if you want.

while it "seeks admin" every morning at 12:01 oh my God that is so sad. If I were writing this, it would have to be the Machine that is the prime mover because it's still in need of a parent, and it does know about Grace already, so maybe it finds her and Will and Reese and pushes them together? In time for Reese not to drink himself to death. But hm, the timing on that is tricky, because the Machine is not free enough until it's too late. Decima recruits Reese? I have no answers, just additional questions.

But maybe Shaw and Kara could meet because YES, and if Reese needs steering in the right direction they would be even better at it than... oh shit you realize you are writing "Will and Grace" fic.

I did not give it permission to be a very large fic

Ha ha. I am continually saying "and I will write this in a few little vignettes" and WHUMP. Mostly medium-size whump, recently, but still.

I think your plot makes reasonable sense, and you know you could deal with Reese simply by having Kara successfully kill him off in Ordos, which would make for a contrary AU indeed.

If Cole dies there is no one with even-close-to-Finch-level hacking skills, but probably the Machine can deal with that. Actually, it's kind of a neat thought to have the Machine playing the Finch role, digitally manipulating in its creator's style with its own flourishes.

I suspect Grace has latent helping-people tendencies. The problem would be she wouldn't feel she had an appropriate skill set, so you'd have to find her one.

I think boiling it down might be a very good idea. It'd keep the focus you want instead of spiraling out into something new and different, and it miiiight keep the word count down.

I have, at current count, TEN in progress fics, and that's just counting ones I have at least a handful of words written for. (It's more like twelve if you count fics I just have IDEAS for.)

Does anyone have the secret to getting fics to write themselves? Because I totally need it. It would probably help if the bastards would PICK ONE FIC for me to work on, but noooooo. We have to keep hopping between them. Fuckers.

About the only thing that works for me lately is picking a document, choosing a playlist I can zone out to, and rereading what I have thus far. Which isn't getting it to write itself, but it does help me write it, y'know?

This. So much. Back in my early fan days -- before computers, when we had to not only write our fics in long hand and then type them up so others could read them (we "passed pages" around to share our works in progress and get feedback, literally) we used to talk about a device that we could plug into our brains that would extract the story as we imagined it and it would emerge all written for us.

Maybe Finch could develop this product in his spare time. I wish he would.

I spent years being prolific in my fic writing and then it dwindled down for numerous reasons. My muse didn't officially wake up until I got into POI! That's both good and bad because for the first time in years, I've got more than one fic on deck.

I need to just buckle down and write... I've been spending far too much time hanging around POI coms and playing with photo apps I've downloaded (to make it easier to produce content for my Tumblr, of course, lol) and my fics aren't making progress.

I'm supposedly "stuck" on a couple of my fics. There's the one about the puppy mill -- requires research on mills in the near New York area. Then there's the Reese having trouble in the bedroom one -- I need to find a couple more scenes to illustrate his problem and get on the way to resolving it. There's the Sentinel crossover, which I did some research for over the weekend and I'm about ready to get some of it down on "paper," i.e. computer screen. Then there's the Dark City series I started back when I wrote a dub-con Kara/Reese fic and the start of the next one in which Reese has started working for Finch and discovers some dark stuff going on in NYC. [personal profile] callmecathy and I bounced that one around the other night and I've gotten closer to the ideas I have for that coming into focus... so many fics, so little time.

I did a meme that was going around, which means I have a ton of fic to write. One of the prompts is "Finch/Reese, control", that will LIKELY GET ADORABLE NO MATTER HOW HARD I TRY. Because them. And I can already feel it spinning out of control because brevity and I are estranged (which sometimes sucks, lemmetellyou).

Another one I have brewing is one Sara is trading me for in which John gets off just from blowing Harold. Which is totally them because he would do ANYTHING for Harold and he worships him and Harold feeling pleasure means HE feels pleasure.

(I should note that this is in exchange for a Finch/Reese total power exchange fic. Because them.)

n which John gets off just from blowing Harold.
Thud! Oh please write this, now!

[personal profile] subluxate, just want to say hi. I've met you on [community profile] fanficrants and it's great to be in a fandom with you and particularly the corner of the fandom (i.e. Reese/Finch) you're playing in!

I have never been able to be brief, which is I think partly because I cut my fic writing teeth back in the day when we had time between zines coming out to fully flesh those ideas out. Stories were often over 5,000 words long and there was no such thing as a drabble or flash fic. I've enjoyed trying my had at those and have written some short fics (compared to my old long stuff) in POI, but I really want to work on something longer and really deep. We need nice long fics in this fandom. There's nothing wrong with novella or novel length fics and this fandom needs them!

=) Hi! My first fandom, in 2005, was M*A*S*H. Back then, most of us in [livejournal.com profile] mash_slash were awed by fic over 1,000 words, lol. Now I've written fics that were over 65,000 words when they were meant to be around 15,000-20,000 words. Sara and [personal profile] geena make fun of me for it. (I'm planning a M*A*S*H fic that someone bought that's probably going to be at LEAST 20,000 words, when she asked for about 3,000. facepalm)

I'm still planning that Finch/Reese fic, and it might end up exploring their relationship and being longish and. It's going to happen, but since it's my first PoI fic, it's going to take some planning. And probably rewatching. THE HORROR!

I do know [personal profile] astolat has written at least two fairly long fics, but I'm not sure about other authors.

Anyway, hi! I know you from there. Nice to know more people in this comm!

M*A*S*H*... yes. I will never forget reading a fic that was actually better than the finale of the show, if you can believe that. Friendship between B.J. and Hawkeye IIRC and I don't know if it's online since it was zine published around the time of the show going off the air. But you'd love it. If I ever come across the zine it's in, I'll be sure to let you know.

I once took six years to write a S/H novel that tops out at over 200,000 words. It was in zine form and was 450 pages long. I wrote other stuff while I was doing it which was one reason it took so long, plus the research I was doing had to be managed pre internet too, lol. Of course, that's one of the reasons I've not been able to write fics that are really long since then. I'm finally recovered from it and the huge Wiseguy fic that I tackled quite a few years ago. Thank goodness.
