I'm not sure if it's my own issues with the show lately, but this was a tad disappointing. Sure, the Finch and Reese scenes were great, and the bits we knew about because of promos (eyebrows, bowties) were just as fab as expected, but the actual plot... meh. More than that, tired. It was a tired plot. It was tired and it made me tired too.
It's frustrating to love the components of something, but not the whole. I loved Shaw and the number in this (!! my little femslash heart thought they were adorable), but I hated the male gaze on Shaw when she stepped into the room in her dress. I loved Shaw and the number being burglar buddies, but I hated that once again a woman was a victim in a way that is hardly new, that once again we see a powerful, talented, athletic, smart character subjected and only really rescued due to the multiple actions of different men (even though she had a hand in it) first Finch with the idea, then Reese with her daughter, then the Interpol man with the final mercy. Despite stealing the damned thing herself, very little hinged on her own actions. She was in a shitty situation, and clearly she did need help, but the writing was disappointing. (Also, who wears zippers on the hipbones and high heels to an amazing gymnastic feat which includes landing and crawling through air ducts and swinging on your hips? I mean, she rocked it. But ouch. Re: male gaze).
There were parts I super enjoyed: Finch fondling a 3D printer, lol, Reese falling back into the familiar but slightly changed patterns of the library (that he kept a weapon in the card drawer behind Finch), and, of course, Shaw. Just, always, Shaw.
Maybe someone else can reinvigorate me. As it stands... meh.
